First Session—5:30 p.m. – Amy Carles– Ohio Consumers’ Counsel  Avoiding Utility Scams and Deceptive Business Practices”

Consumer scams are prevalent and can also involve your utility service. Is there really a problem with your bill? Can you really save money? How do you know? What should you do? Knowing your consumer rights and how to protect yourself from unscrupulous sales practices is a must! Learn to identify scams, effectively say “no,” and reduce unwanted solicitations. The latest utility scams, Caller Id spoofing, slamming and cramming will be discussed.

 Amy Carles is a Senior Outreach and Education Program Specialist with the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC), the residential utility consumer advocate. She serves 31 counties in the West Central and Northwest region of Ohio supporting OCC’s advocacy and providing education on a wide range of utility topics, including electric, natural gas, telephone and water. Amy has worked in consumer protection, with not only OCC but also with the Ohio Attorney General’s office and the Better Business Bureau serving Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, for more years than she cares to admit because then she has to admit she is older than she thinks she is.

—7:20 p.m.- Ray Davis– OGW Energy Resources Renewable and Sustainable Energy Sources

Ray Davis is a partner of OGW Energy Resources, a firm based in Tipp City, which started formation in 2007.  His background includes experience in the Aviation / Aerospace Industry.  Positions he has held include Director of Engineering, New Business Development Manager, and Worldwide Aftermarket & Distribution Sales Manager.  His degree is from The Ohio State University in Aviation / Aerospace.

OGW Energy Resources is a provider of energy resources that are both renewable and sustainable. We provide turnkey consultation, installation and maintenance services to our commercial and residential clients.
