  Membership Levels  
 

Regular Membership (Dues $195): Members are entitled to all services and benefits of the Institute of Management Accountants. All members of the IMA, residing in the United States, its possessions, or Canada, will be considered Regular Members, with the exception of those Membership categories described below.

International Member-At-Large (Dues $195): A member of the IMA residing outside of the United States, possessions, or Canada will be classified as International Member-At-Large.

Academic (Dues $98): Full time teachers/professors will be granted a reduced rate of annual dues equivalent to one-half the regular member dues.

Young Professional (Dues $130): Young Professional Membership is available to those individuals who have met the admission criteria for membership, reside in the U.S., Canada or Mexico and have not yet reached their 33rd birthday. A Young Professional will be automatically transferred to the status of Regular member on the renewal date immediately following the member's 33rd birthday. Dues for a Young Professional member are 2/3 of regular member dues.

Student Membership (Dues $39): Reserved for qualified individuals residing in the United States, its possessions, or Canada, who are currently enrolled in six (6) hours per semester.

Membership Criteria

Anyone living within the United States, its possessions, or Canada, and who are otherwise qualified for membership under the Bylaws, can apply for membership as defined in Article 1 Section 2 of the Bylaws, providing they meet the following minimum criteria:

Effective January 1, 1998, all new IMA members -- except CMAs, Emeritus Life Associate, Emeritus Life Members, Retired Members, and Student Members -- will be required to meet a minimum standard for continuing professional education (CPE) of 20 hours per year as a condition of membership; and that all CPE hours must meet the qualitative specifications set forth by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants that CMAs will continue to meet a minimum standard of 30 hours per year; that the Board may adopt policies of CPE for volunteer leaders.

(1) Member must have a full four-year college degree, or (2) have a two-year degree with a minimum of 15 semester hours in accounting plus four years of experience in a management accounting position at the time of admission, or (3) hold a CPA certificate, or an international certificate comparable to a CPA or CMA certificate, or (4) have six years experience on management accounting, or (5) agree to complete 18 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours in IMA approved programs (local or national) in each of the five consecutive years from date of admission. A member not fulfilling the commitments will automatically be dropped from membership, or (6) be a college student carrying a minimum of six undergraduate hours (or equivalent) per semester within a school, college or university in the United States.
